Truly not trying to be cool, the simple fact is that this movie is like cocaine for a child of divorce. The whole thing of your parents turning into something you can't recognize and feeling like you have to move through the world alone, hits a little too close to home. I bought the DVD at a newstand when I was five to have something to do at my dad's apartment and never went back. Watched like two times a week, every week, for like a year

that's such a real reason to enjoy a movie... i'm so sorry you went through that but at least you had a movie that you could watch and relate to in order to cope with it

@AIMRADIO thanks dear, currently I have a very good relationship with both my parents, but it was really comforting to have a movie like this where a child (a girl!) go through all that, and be afraid and insecure, but still manages to find a way out

Long story short, I think I first watched it when I was around 9 or 10. I had just moved to a new place, didn’t know anyone yet, and had recently become friends with someone who ended up being really special in my life. I remember her brother had this huge movie collection, and one day they invited me over to watch something and it was Spirited Away. So not only did that moment mark the beginning of our friendship, but the film also became one of my all-time favorites because of everything it represents. I’m not the kind of person who usually watches the same movie over and over, but this one was an exception! I’ve watched it countless times. Back then, it sort of became our thing to watch movies together, and I think that’s when I really started falling in love with films.

Completely unoriginal, but this is a classic. Such a comfort watch. 🩷 The sprites make me happy. ☁️🥹☁️

Not to be basic, but our Chinese household somehow had the DVD (definitely not official) all throughout my childhood and I never dared to play it until I was 12 because the pigs unnerved me so much. Thank god I held off until then - it changed 12 year old Amy's life.

One of the things I like the most about Pi.fyi and the current scale of users is that it's still noticeable when a rec was inspired by another. Sometimes the rec directly mentions the other, but other times you can kinda assume that reading an especific thing here triggered a memory or an ideia. It's very cute and interesting to notice the small influences interacting with other humans online can have.

I know there are days when you are so tired, or maybe you made a big meal for friends and family or you spent the afternoon meal prepping and now you have to clean like five pots and a tray, but be brave!!! (my inner monologue) Don't force your future self to wake up to a bunch of dirty dishes. It will keep your mind full because you will be constantly reminding yourself to clean that up.
