I’m halfway through at page 556. I wanted to read my first 1,000 page book this year, and this combines old school power politics , city design, and construction — which are all things I’m interested in. Phenomenal that people did research like this before the internet. Props to Robert A. Caro. Gotta visit New York now.

@TORTITUDE you should! If for no reason other than “Master of the Senate” just sounds super heavy and cool. I’m thinking about starting with that one lol

@TORTITUDE wait but you gotta go from the beginning! (I say this as someone who started The Path to Power in 2022 and has yet to finish it…)

@TORTITUDE so fascinating and well written! But my attention span and discipline have been shot for many years at this point.

Docu about Robert Caro (author of the power broker) and his editor, Robert Gottlieb. Makes you love writing, makes you want to commit your life to a craft as purely as these two guys have, and makes you want to read the power broker. Delightful!

This is one of the only novels over 500 pages that not only did I read through to the end but also devoured each page. Ive never known of a book around 600 pages to absolutely speed through immense amounts of plot as this book does but it feels like a list of slimy gossip plastered onto you until you’re absolutely coated in grimy stories of poisoned smack or bitten off noses. the way this book also proudly flaunts its anti-capitalism and anti-America ideology is also so pleasing- so many of the characters are absolutely blinded by the bright lights of the post war boom and the new reinstatement of the American dream. If you’re looking for a book that not only exudes with the sounds of the platters and frank sinatra but also shows you the obvious underbelly of American history then read the FUCK out of this book.

It’s a Bianchi. I got it off Facebook Marketplace about a year ago for $200. I don’t know if that’s a good deal, but it seemed like one to me. I really enjoy riding it to and from places, as well as to no particular place at all.

I absolutely love it. I was lost after college and stumbled ass-backwards into masonry having only done some construction during summer breaks. It’s an old ass building method, and has artistic edge. When someone asks “what would you have done if you lived in Ancient Rome?” I can say I’d be a bricklayer, and that’s a pretty cool feeling.

A great summertime game. The scoring system works in the favor of creating Big Comebacks. I play one point for a bag on the board. Three for one in the hole. 21 points to win the game, and if you don’t get exactly 21 you go back to eleven. Yesterday I played against my roommate, and let me tell you, it was a Scorsese of a game. Almost an hour long and some huge lead changes to boot. Get some beer (put it in a koozie for mystique) and go see what you got!
