just went to see Nine Inch Nails last night and did Primavera Sound the week before. traded out my Loop earplugs for Crescendos. the Loops are very trendy right now and I love that we're all caring for our ears now but I always hated how they muffled sounds - they definitely felt like they dulled the music. the Crescendo earplugs are just not that. concerts sound exactly the same except at a manageable volume. I also prefer the fit - it's a lot easier to put them in and just forget you have them on. I understand they do some heavy-duty ones for "fucking loud" environments (their words not mine) which I might actually try out also. to me these are the obvious default recommendation and they're a good bit cheaper than the Loops. hope these help save someone else's ears as well as mine.

(Loop is the brand) Theyโ€™re very subtle when youโ€™re wearing them and they work well at concerts at least. Different size tips for different size ears make them comfortable. NY Times recommends Soundcore Space One and Earfun Air Pro 4 if you want to try noise cancelling gear on a budget. If you have the money for Bose or Sony, go for those. I recommend playing white noise with them to help mask sounds.

I wear these at all gigs i go to (and also in the cinema and crowds). they are made specifically for that environment so donโ€™t lose sound quality, its the same sound just a little quieter. they come in a little case you can put on your key ring and also have loops you can put a string or chain through to wear them round your neck

I personally use Loop Quiet 2 earplugs for concerts, and recently started using them for parties. Sometimes at The Function we take a few drinks, but I tend to get overstimulated by the party noise when I'm drunk and get really bad emotional/sensory burnout by the end of the night. Ever since I started wearing earplugs I've been able to enjoy the whole night with no emotional sensory crashout!! The environment is so much less overwhelming and tbh I don't think I'm ever going back

the simplicity of exploring around on Google Earth meets the infinity of local radio from every single pocket of the globe. the thrill of the hunt and the joy of just hanging out. it doesn't get better than this folks

it's only like 11ยฐC outside in Dublin right now but the sensation of sunlight helps to elevate the cruel existence of Computer Work. so, fuck it! balcony season! allowing the Macbook to experience its true natural habitat of Somewhere That Isn't My Desk has made me a bit more appreciative of its possibilities. last summer I took the idea to its logical end point and brought my cheap usb dj controller out on the balcony with me, recording DJ sets for nobody in particular on my headphones as the sun sets. those days approach once more. now if only I could solve the glare problem
