kind of a controversial statement shoe but I wore these converse nearly every day—partly to spice up my otherwise plain outfits, but mostly to give me a nice daily height boost. even though they’re huge, they’re very light and comfortable, and now they’re so closely associated with me that people will tell me whenever they see a similar pair in the wild. unfortunately, I didn’t take care of them very well and had to lay them to rest recently :( the first photo is from when they were relatively new, the second photo is from a few months ago when the toe cap started hanging off (easy superglue fix but the beginning of the end), and the final photo is from a week ago, after the heel somehow came off on my walk to work without me noticing. they will be missed but I think they’ve had their time 💔

i’ve had my current pair for two years (i think?) and at this point they’re completely trashed. for the first year i wore them almost every day, and it shows. quite literally busting at the seams. the pic doesn’t even show the full extent of the damage. when i bend my foot, the fabric rips. there are knots in the laces that cannot be undone. the soles are so worn down that i can feel every little pebble on the ground as i walk. terrible arch support, but i don’t care. i love my converse :)

been a big fan of using things down to the last drop, especially clothing which our culture increasingly is treating as disposable. i've had these sneakers for like 7 years. they survived hot texas pavement you could fry an egg on while i was working at summer camp, carried me on plenty of hikes, survived getting submerged in salt water in connecticut, and lived most of their golden years in the trunk of my car as the forever on-call backup shoes. their last act of service to me was walking me three miles home after the chain snapped on my bike. by the time the midsole peeled off just now, the treads on the soles had been almost completely worn flat. time to get some new sneakers and grind them to dust for 7 years. thanks for the arch support, New Balance 574s 🫡

i think i got them when i started high school or my second year of highschool wore them the whole four/five years i had them and in the end i had the sole ripped off it really went through a lot !! the saddest part of them dying was when i couldn't jump into puddles to splash my friends since my socks would likely get wet but yeah it was a fun ride with those shoes
