to preface this i do NOT!!!! fw ai generated motion pictures. but. it's so fascinating seeing how a filmmaker like him with a relatively prominent cult following is now fucking around making shitty ai generated videos on youtube, not because he has any actual interest in it, but because he truly, genuinely, has fuck else to do.

I guess we should never say never (like maybe generative AI will be able to make all sorts of videos in a couple years but let's not think too much about that :P), but I'm glad to reduce my intake of easily generated content like street interviews, gaming streams (which I was never into anyway), or like "20 locations you're NEVER allowed to go" listicle videos, and to increase my intake of stuff like "watch me renovate this dilapidated house over 40 weeks", "I traveled from San Francisco to Seattle using only public transit: Day 1", "here's the life story of this person whose grave I found in a forgotten cemetery in the middle of the woods in rhode island", etc. I love a really longform video where I'm like "there's no way to get AI to make this for you" (video examples are from Tia Weston, AdamDoesNotExist, and Dime Store Adventures, respectively!)

I never understood the appeal of watching let's plays but I'll make an exception for gaming archeology. Seeing these silly, dated games be played is fun. But the video is really an ode to web 1.0—freeware, personal websites, and creativity.

i found out late last year that it is so joyous to run while intoxicated.. when i buy a house, i will also buy a treadmill and i will drink every night and run [theoretically infinite] until i'ts my bedtime. then i will go and sleep a sleep that is inborn with love and joy. like a hamster.

Found footage film series by the director of Noroi: The Curse and Occult and I.M.O. the best the genre has to offer. Great image-making is hard to come by in found footage, but the good thing is that most of the films that do it well do it *really* well, & these are at the top. The thing about this series though is that you really do have to watch the whole thing, or at least the first 7. But they more or less keep getting better and better with each entry so it's worth it af. 6 is my favorite (pictured below) If u like paranormal investigation media, this starts out as a pretty endearing spoof of that stuff, but it very steadily develops into something much bigger than can be expressed with the words on a pi.fyi post. Vast, jaw dropping, cosmic terror. If you don't have shit going on spring break this would be perfect to binge. And it's all on youtube with beautiful fan-translated subtitles (linked)! 2025 is the year of Senritsu Kaiki! Get in on the ground floor!
