If you’ve been out of it for a minute and it’s your first time back, just go to the gym and futz about and read an article on your phone and drink from your water bottle and maybe use the treadmill or stairmaster for 5 minutes. It’s important to stay at the gym for at least 30 minutes to start absorbing the “energy” of the gym. Or, lace up your joggers and kinda go for a walk with the “intention” or eventually getting into a run/jog but you never actually run. Maybe you pick up some protein powder and créatine on the way home at the health food store. This is important to prime your sympathetic nervous system for the fitness to occur in the coming days and weeks and months. You’re lubricating and warming up the “mind muscle connection”. Every journey starts with a first step.

If it’s your first day back in the gym after an extended period of time, just start off with the ten-pound weights, bro. I know it’s way past what you can handle and you can lift way more, but that shit is gonna sprain your arms and upper-body real bad, especially if your form’s out of whack like mine currently is. Do as many sets as you can with the ten-pounds (super easy to maintain proper form) until you can’t anymore. This + 30 pushups, 30 crunches and 30 minutes on the treadmill. Best way to hop back into the routine on a first day. The 30/30/30 rule.

after experiencing a bout of depression, i'm getting back into fitness with active movement for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. no goals except to feel good in my body. (the last part is partially a reminder to myself because i'm nowhere where i used to be)

go to the gym. i was kinda scared of going to the gym at first due to self-esteem, but after going for about nearly a month now its like i dont care. you might think youre being judged or you just dont fit into that type of place. i can assure you though the people there are also just trying to better themselves. they are also so nice & uplifting, no pun intended. my favorite thing to do is the treadmill & calf extensions. i highly recommend the treadmill, if you want to be simple, especially on an incline of 12-15 percent at a 3-3.2 speed. another thing i recommend is stretching; sometimes parts of our bodies go over looked in our day to day life and they tend to tighten up. stretching will make you feel much more agile!

Has *almost* never failed me and when it has the other person either is super boring or literally has NO interest in making any sort of effort so really it’s either a clutch game changer or a powerful sorting tool. win win!
