omg thank you this ask just unlocked this from the depths of my mind- I was OBSESSED with this book. Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson I also remember loving the I Can Read! Biscuit the dog book? it was the first book I learned to "read"... but my mom caught me memorizing it since its pretty tough for anyone to read upside down😅

i loveeeed reading when i was a kid, and my dream is to also work in a library of some kind!! it's mostly bc i have a family history tied to libraries (mom and great-grandma work(ed) in libraries), so i fell in love with them and reading while i was growing up. i mostly loved books if the art was beautiful too. i would spend literal hours of my life staring at the pictures in my books as a kid. here's some of my favorites!! the poky little puppy by janette sebring lowrey corduroy by don freeman the very hungry caterpillar by eric carle alice's adeventures in wonderland by lewis carroll chrysanthemum by kevin henkes a bad case of stripes by david shannon charlotte's web by e.b. white

so i can’t tell you exactly what kicked that off for me. i will say, what exacerbated it was seeing a girl in my second grade gifted and talented class reading harry potter and the goblet of fire and i was jealous bc the book was thick as hell and we were only 7!! so i started the series out of spite so i could get to the fifth book before she did. becuase i read so many books as a child, i would say they’re All formative to me in some way. but when i saw this ask, the first book i thought of was “the miraculous journey of edward tulane”… this may sound sad but it was the first book i remember ever making me cry. i didn’t know you could be connected to a book like that until then, so i think of it warmly and fondly. it’s like wow there really are new worlds and beating hearts between pages… (i also remember reading another book that made me cry when i was slightly older. it was about a girl without a shadow who had some sort of cat familiar that followed her around. i remember fighting tears so hard but also can’t remember the title for the life of me.) (a series of unfortunate events had me hooked too. i think i was into some pretty somber stuff loool).

i really loved the lost island of time by paige britt, ive read that book so many times there are little holes in some of the pages from where i held it i also really loved ivy + bean, along with some graphic novels like rapunzels revenge/calamity jack by nathan hale, and all of the scott pilgrim comics when i was too young to understand them😭

There are SO many great series out here these days, and this isn’t anything new or groundbreaking, but I’ve been watching Adventure Time since I was a little kid- I have watched it in full dozens of times at least. I’m amazed every viewing at how I am able to understand new profound themes along with new levels of silliness. The creator is basically a genius and I think it’s one of the most beautiful and underrated cartoons everrrrr

I’ve been obsessed with this app that identifies birdies based on their calls and songs! It’s incredible how many different birds are in my yard at different times of day. I’m so excited to use it while traveling too🙌
