war, the search for identity, love and loss, the fragility and the resilience of human spirit, with a thin layer between reality and allegory.. easily one of the most poetic novels i have read

i picked up this book when i was travelling through albania, apparently the writer sadly passed away the day i bought it… did i curse him or ??? anyways, the book is about a young man stuck in a blood feud between two families that has been going on for years -according to the code of kanun. and arghh its so good!!! albanian culture is really fascinating i really recommend this for those interested in albanian culture.. which you should be since the country is pretty unknown, yet very beautiful and definitely deserves more recognition. also its a pretty short read i included a link to a wikipedia page about the blood feuds for those interested

by miljenko jergovic and it IS translated yay. it’s short stories about the lives of different “characters” in yugoslavia during the 90s wars but it’s such a unique collection of stories and the way he writes these characters is sooooooooooooooo unbelievably good. very human, melancholy-yet-hopeful and beautiful. my favorite one is Cactus. one of the few works of fiction i enjoyed!
