like woah!!! so much history!!! so much roots!!! your being is so rich!!! your culture is decadent!!! do you not understand how cool you are because of your ancestral customs!!! like your ancestors may have literally believed in the coolest gods and had the coolest/scariest/wackiest/maybe not so forgiving and probably very brutal customs and that is still quite cool/interesting!!! even if you’re not proud of something, it’s still history!

the thought of never knowing every single person I’m related to all the way back to the start keeps me awake at night

Half of my ancestors believed that we did cannibalism every time we had a mass (transubstantiation) The other half were Jews and Muslims (intermarried) and I assume their customs are cool too but I didn't get taught any of those. Maybe I'll Google it idk

Like so many people, I never cared for history. It was always just a bunch of dates, cause-and-effect relationships, and names I had to memorize last minute before an exam. Now that I’m so many years separated from all that, I’ve finally found that I’m entering the pro-history phase of my life. I mean, it’s just so interesting. There’s such finite details available about everything, and sooo many different little niches with tons of resources equally as available as the obvious stuff. oh and it’s true, which is both terrifying and cool.

I’ve been listening to long YouTube video essays about Mayan and Aztec culture this week and I think we should all indulge interests we’ve had since we were kids! Honestly all North and South American indigenous cultures created such cool things and have such rich history while still thriving today! you should probably watch some video essays on them and learn I think or let me know which one you like to learn about. For me I’m most interested in the aforementioned nations and ancient China.

tried reading dante alighieri’s inferno. key emphasis on tried. i got bored and realised a story written in poem form is not my typa beat. i tried because it seemed like what all the indie hipsters who are well versed would read, and that i would look cool and niche—but it just cost me $25. i prefer crazy detailed paragraphs rather than a line by line story. anyways
