this short novel revived my love of reading and though i haven’t read My Year of Rest and Relaxation, it seems to me if you want to be inside the head of someone insufferable but relatable (and queer!) you could always choose Cassandra’s. I also heard Neon / John Early won the rights to adapt it so….

oh my goddd my friends have all gotten tired of me talking about this book because i literally bring it up whenever someone asks for book recs but it’s sooo amazingly written it’s a shame it isn’t more well known!! the plot is fairly simple, a woman named cassandra comes home from college to attend her twin sister’s wedding, but where it really shines is the unique character studies and the fun/relatable prose and inner monologue! it was written by dorothy baker in the 60s, and is pretty progressive for the time (the main character is lesbian which was definitely not accepted much back then!!) anyways i would definitely read it if you’re a fan of very down to earth and relatable stories! (although trigger warning for suicidal ideations, its not graphic but still!)

I'm recommending a novel that I started reading for the first time yesterday, so take this with a grain of salt — I'm only a quarter of the way through. Pride and Prejudice + Jayne Eyre + Bell Jar (maybe?) = too early to really tell, but snappy and delightful and not sure where it is going Written as journal entries by 17-year-old narrator, published in 1940s

I very pathetically and desperately read just about anything promised to appeal for "fans of Gillian Flynn". This is the 1 in 50 that delivers, and not as a rip off or homage, but its own specific dark jewel. Just a riveting and very awful (positive) novel. So rarely does something capture this part of childhood, the very primal and un-socialized us vs. them, me vs. you, jealousy and confused pre-maturity longing and disgust. Crazy!

extend the life of your clothes by covering holes or stains with embroidery floss and yarn while giving them new cool zombie flair! you don’t even have to be neat, the more imperfect the weave the more organic the result. the best mended garments are almost fungal, covered in sick multi-colored lichen.

I beg of you get to the point. texting is not an instant messenger and I have not committed to a conversation / to being on my phone all day. you have no idea how this text finds me.

it’s not bed rotting to rest when you’re tired, run-down, or sick. I can feel where capitalist dogma has seeped into me every time I feel doubt or shame for how much time I’ve spent in bed or doing very little, or the fear that I’ll never be motivated to do anything again. it’s not true! inevitably after only 3 days of solid rest I naturally crave activity, projects, organization, work, and not as penance. rec for rest: screen time of any kind is not the rest I’m talking about… we’re talking rest as a monotask.
