the plot is so magical and i like roth's writing a lot better in this one compared to the whole divergent series (it was so inconsistent lmao) it used to be my favourite book when i was young, i wonder if i read it now again, if i would feel like i have outgrown it.

I read the trilogy for the first time in 2019. I was really surprised and impressed by the complexity of these books. I think they were some of the last good YA books and also unknowingly were the precipice the publishing industry would topple from. It's not Suzanne Collins fault everyone said oh my god, we're doing districts. The movies don't capture what makes these books special; they capture what makes it marketable. I enjoy them but don't approve. The distance between the two is too sad. For me, it's so pleasurable to trace the obvious lineage of this series. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, then The Long Walk by Richard Bachman (Stephen King), two of my favorite works, then The Hunger Games. Every author wanting more than the previous one gave. If you haven't read in a while, these might get you going again. Digestible, approachable, and honestly deeply affecting. As a connoisseur of dystopia, this tastes just fine.

honestly this was a read from childhood that has always stuck with me and i will go back to. it has such a whimsiness about it that makes you feel like a child again while reading it. gorgeous details that you can envision as well as a fun plot.

I ve seen all the movies so I know what’s gonna happen. But why does it hit different and harder in the books!?!?! Im a grown ass adult and STILL am shocked At these plot twists and social commentary! Plus everytime I carry one of these books I’m reading, I always get a wonderful comment from a stranger. Which is fun

i came across this rec quite randomly and i haven't read sci-fi in so long, i wondered if it would be too much for me but this book was delightfully fun! the main character wakes up from a coma aboard a spacecraft and pretty much has to work his way backward to remembering why he is here, what he is doing here, who even he is, so on. the last sci-fi i had read was the 'artemis fowl' series when i was a kid which i genuinely enjoyed so much that i had quite a lot of expectations for this one- it wasn't what i expected but definitely wasn't a let down too (struggling to review without giving a spoiler so just rambling)
